According to the World Health Organization, more than 60,000 new cancer cases are estimated to occur each year in Myanmar. While recent data is not available, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports, cancer incidence is increasing, not only in Myanmar but also worldwide due to changing lifestyles. Lung, oral, liver, colon and gastric cancers are common among men in the country, while breast, cervix, lung, ovary and stomach cancers are common among women. The ministry said 67 percent of cancer patients in the country are between the ages of 35 and 64, and most patients learned about their condition at a later stage, when the disease can no longer be treated.
